How the Baileys farm built the next generation milking facility
Brothers Joe and Michael Hayden have been pioneering cow-centred sustainability-based practices on the Baileys farm in Tinahely, County Wicklow, for over 40 years. Its purpose-built stainless-steel carousel allows them to milk 230 cows unassisted in just over one hour.Inspired by animal behavioural science studies, the herd now listen to a tailored Spotify playlist whilst being milked and each wear a MooMonitor+ - like a Fitbit for dairy cows.
The huge advancements in milking technology allow the dairy cows to be milked twice a day, every day (including Christmas), producing over 1.5 million litres of milk per year at around 7,000 litres per cow.
