History defying convention
The first legal distillery in Dufftown – ‘the whisky capital of the world’ – Morlach was founded in 1823. It was the pioneering spirit of owner George Cowie who laid the foundation for a world class whisky brand. His son, Alexander Cowie later introduced the unique 2.81 times distillation process and traditional Worm Tub condensers, which create Mortlach’s rich flavour.
By 1897, Mortlach had expanded from three to six stills, and added a railway to its Speyside distillery.

To honour two centuries of distilling excellence, Mortlach has partnered with visionary contemporary creator Philippe Starck as its first ever Creative Director. The exclusive Mortlach x Starck collection sits at the crossroads of traditional savoir-faire and avant-garde intelligence. The three limited edition Scotch whiskeys - Begin, Become and Beyond – all reinvent what whisky represents, reimagining the spirit of Mortlach for a new generation.
