Diageo is a British company with a global presence in around 180 countries.  In Spain and Portugal, Diageo’s brands have been part of everyday life for nearly 100 years.

Overview

Diageo was born from the merger of Guinness and Grand Metropolitan in 1997, and we proudly carry a legacy that dates back to the 17th century. A British company, we are a leader in the spirits industry and we are driven to be the world’s best brand builder, leading the way in premium drinks.

Our brands are present in Spain and Portugal since much before Diageo was founded. They can be traced back at least since the 1930s and Diageo legacy companies were established in Iberia in the 1980s. Since 1997, Diageo has built a strong position in these countries, directly managing the marketing and distribution of the Group’s full brand portfolio. In October 2025, the creation of Diageo Iberia — encompassing Spain and Portugal — marked a new chapter, strengthening regional alignment and reinforcing the strategic importance of the Iberian market within the Group.

In the Spanish market, we are category leaders in whisky through our iconic brand Johnnie Walker. In the Portuguese market, Johnnie Walker and J&B also stand out for their strong presence and positioning.

In addition, we are leading the emerging 0.0 category in Spain and Portugal with the launch of Tanqueray 0.0. This sets the stage for scaling across all routes to market, helping customers seize new opportunities and offering consumers greater choice.

Circular Packaging

Our commitment extends to circular packaging solutions:

  • All packaging made from glass and cardboard is 100% recyclable.
  • Aiming for 50% recycled materials in packaging by 2030.
  • Contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions through innovation in design, including ultra-lightweight glass bottles, removal of cardboard outer packaging, paper-based bottles and bottles produced with net zero carbon emissions, among other initiatives.

Promote Responsible Drinking

Responsible consumption is integral to who we are. We empower consumers to make informed choices by providing them with essential information and tools for safe alcohol consumption.

In this context, Diageo Iberia implements the Smashed programme in Spain and Portugal, an initiative designed to promote zero alcohol consumption among minors. The programme delivers dramatised educational sessions — fully independent from the company’s brands — both in person and online in schools and secondary education centres.
