Celebrating Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee

As people across the United Kingdom prepare to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this weekend, Diageo sends congratulations to Her Majesty on a remarkable, enduring 70-year reign.

As people across the United Kingdom prepare to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this weekend, Diageo sends congratulations to Her Majesty on a remarkable, enduring 70-year reign.

We are honoured that Diageo brands hold five Royal Warrants granted by HM The Queen for the supply of spirits and wines to the Royal Household, which dates back through Justerini & Brooks to the coronation of George III in 1761.  Justerini & Brooks, along with Johnnie Walker, Pimm’s, Royal Lochnagar, Tanqueray and Gordon’s, will all be paying tribute to Her Majesty this weekend and throughout the Platinum Jubilee year.

On Thursday 2nd June, Johnnie Walker will take part in the lighting of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacons at Johnnie Walker Princes Street in Edinburgh and distilleries in the four corners of Scotland – Lowland Glenkinchie, Cardhu on Speyside, Highland Clynelish and Caol Ila on Islay, as well as at Royal Lochnagar on Royal Deeside.

This nationwide event to launch the Platinum Jubilee will begin on The Mall in London with the illumination of an incredible ‘Tree of Trees’ living sculpture of 350 trees, which also celebrates the Queen’s Green Canopy campaign to plant Jubilee trees across the UK.

Johnnie Walker is proud to be a Platinum Supporter of The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative and earlier this year joined the launch of Edinburgh as a QGC Champion City, donating a tree on behalf of every employee at Johnnie Walker Princes Street to a community planting event in the city.  The planting season resumes in October and Johnnie Walker will re-join the call to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’ as part of the brand’s pledge to plant a million trees in Scotland by 2025.

Royal Lochnagar Distillery sits at the heart of Royal Deeside, just a mile from Balmoral Castle, the Scottish home of the Royal Family. The distillery is privileged to be providing the Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky for the limited release Balmoral Platinum Edition.  Distilled in 2000, this specially selected whisky has been double matured, then married in an oak puncheon since 2012, the year of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee. Balmoral commissioned bespoke cases to present the first two bottles, on plinths of Caledonian pine from the Balmoral Estate, as gifts to Her Majesty and HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay. A further 222 individually numbered bottles will be released for sale on Thursday 2nd June at Balmoral and on www.balmoralcastle.com.

In the spirit of the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday - and the British summertime weather - Pimm’s has designed a limited edition bottle of Pimm’s No.1 with the call for everyone to celebrate ‘come reign or shine’. People joining the celebrations in London over the Jubilee weekend – including the Platinum Jubilee Pageant – will be able to enjoy a Pimm’s at a series of pop-up bars around The Mall. There’s a new cocktail recipe too for a Pimm’s Jubilee Spritz, with strawberry jam, basil, lemon and soda. In Edinburgh, all Diageo’s Royal Warrant holding brands will be supporting a live screening of the Party at the Palace from London in the gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

In celebration of great British food and drink, The Platinum Jubilee Cookbook is an official part of the UK Government’s celebrations.  Author Ameer Kotecha has gathered 70 recipes, food history from Her Majesty’s Ambassadors and High Commissioners around the world and features Gordon’s gin, and Pimm’s as the quintessential drink of the British summer.  All royalties from sales of the book are being donated to The Queen's Commonwealth Trust and The Prince of Wales's Charitable Fund.

Justerini & Brooks will be sending congratulatory wishes through a window display at its St James’s Street premises near Buckingham Palace, featuring the Platinum Jubilee emblem - purple synonymous with royalty and platinum for Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne – and Justerini & Brooks Sarcey Champagne for a Platinum Jubilee toast.

The Diageo Archive will be gathering stories – and the Pimm’s and Balmoral Platinum Edition bottles - from this historic moment to place alongside a treasured collection of pictures, documents and items from royal celebrations over the decades, including the first bottles and advertising to carry Her Majesty The Queen’s Royal Warrant, a picture of Her Majesty in Scotland during the 1953 Coronation tour, and the John Walker & Sons Diamond Jubilee Blended Scotch Whisky, the legacy of which continues to support excellence in British craftsmanship through the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust.

Cheers to Her Majesty on 70 glorious years.
