Purpose of role
The Credit Risk Manager is responsible for safeguarding Serengeti Breweries Limited’s revenue and cash flow by effectively managing customer credit risk and working capital requirements. The role ensures that credit is granted in line with company policies, exposures are monitored, and overdue receivables are minimized while supporting commercial growth in a highly competitive FMCG environment.
Top 3-5 Accountabilities
Credit Risk Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain robust credit risk policies and procedures aligned to SBL and group standards.
- Assess customer creditworthiness using financial analysis, market intelligence, and internal sales data.
- Review and approve credit limits, payment terms, and guarantees in line with delegated authority levels.
- Continuously monitor credit exposure, debtor aging, and risk concentrations across routes to market.
Accounts Receivable & Cash Flow
- Partner with the Sales and Customer Service teams to ensure timely collections, adequate working capital and optimal cash conversion.
- Track overdue balances and drive action plans to reduce aging and bad debt provisions.
- Recommend and implement corrective actions for high‑risk or delinquent customers.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with Sales, Commercial Finance, Legal, and Supply Chain teams to balance risk and growth objectives.
- Provide credit risk insights to support customer negotiations, promotions, and new route‑to‑market strategies.
- Engage with external parties such as insurers, banks, and auditors on credit‑related matters.
Reporting & Governance
- Prepare regular credit risk and receivables performance reports for management and group reporting.
- Monitor compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and governance standards.
- Support internal and external audits by providing required credit documentation and analysis.
People & Capability Development
- Coach and support credit controllers and finance team members to improve credit management capability.
- Promote strong risk awareness and adherence to credit policies across the business.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional qualification (CPA, ACCA, CFA, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 5–8 years’ experience in credit risk management, accounts receivable, or commercial finance.
- Proven experience in FMCG, beverage, or distribution‑intensive environments preferred.
- Strong understanding of Tanzanian market dynamics and customer credit behavior.
