The plan consists of 25 ambitious targets and is focused on three core pillars that are most material to our business - promoting positive drinking, championing inclusion and diversity and pioneering grain-to-glass sustainability.
We are a business tuned to respond to the needs of all our stakeholders and society at large. Our distilleries, breweries and the hospitality industry we serve are at the heart of local communities and we will only thrive if we help these communities prosper too.
We have worked hard to build strong analytical rigour and capability within our business, generating data-led insights to drive our performance. Our approach to the delivery of our ESG goals is no different. We understand the importance of measurement and transparency and are moving towards a fully integrated approach to reporting, with all our commitments directly linked to our strategic priorities. Our plans are a core part of the operational delivery of the business, day in, day out.
Society 2030 plan
Our Society 2030 plan is focused on three core pillars - promoting positive drinking, championing inclusion and diversity and pioneering grain-to-glass sustainability.
Targets and performance
We have been addressing our most material issues for a long time and our Society 2030 action plan builds on our successful ESG track record.
As part of our Society 2030 action plan, we have some of the most ambitious ESG targets in the industry. These are aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
"We are determined to build a sustainable business for the very long term and seek to make a positive impact on the issues that matter most to our stakeholders and to wider society. The Board is confident that through the ambitious goals outlined in the 'Society 2030: Spirit of Progress’ plan, Diageo will continue to play a leading role in value creation for all of our stakeholders and actively support our industry, and our communities, through to 2030 and beyond."Javier Ferran, Chairman, Diageo
Promote positive drinking
We want people who choose to drink, to drink better not more.
Promoting moderation and addressing the harmful use of alcohol is not only the right thing to do but also a critical part of our premiumisation strategy. We want to help millions of people around the world trade-up to higher quality, better tasting drinks and also to enjoy no or lower alcohol brands. We continue to address harmful use of alcohol, expanding our programmes that tackle underage drinking, drink-driving and binge drinking.
Champion inclusion and diversity
We are committed to creating the most inclusive and diverse culture.
Our commitment on diversity is not just industry-leading but we believe is also playing a role in shaping change within the FTSE. It allows us to recruit and retain the best employees, achieve better performance and have a greater impact on society.
Pioneer grain-to-glass sustainability
We understand that for our business to be sustainable, we must create enduring value - for us and for those around us.
Our Society 2030: Spirit of Progress plan takes us further than ever in our drive to preserve water for life, accelerate to a low carbon world and become sustainable by design.
Doing business the right way from grain to glass
Doing the right thing, in the right way, is embedded in our culture.
Our focus on doing business the right way is at the heart of all we do, not just because it is the right thing to do, but also because it is good for our business, our brands, the people we work with and the places we operate.
