Guinness Night Football

25 Feb 2020

Guinness and football go hand in hand across Africa. Guinness is known for its rugby partnerships like the Six Nations in Europe, but in African Markets where Guinness has been enjoyed for decades, that partnership is with football. The beautiful game across markets including Ghana, Uganda, Nigeria and Kenya is enjoyed with a bottle of Guinness in hand.

The latest celebration of this connection is Guinness Night Football. This is Guinness as you have never seen it before. Right across Africa, Guinness brought the unexpected to football with a multi sensory explosion of colour and character. An extravaganza of night time five aside football matches held across countries. Between Uganda, Kenya, Cameroon and Nigeria Over 18,000 consumers experienced the events in person, with many millions more involved through social media and TV.

A multi sensory explosion of colour and character full of intensity and vibrancy.  Guinness Night Football over the past few months has brought a new passion and fun to watching and participating in football culminating in a final night of football in Lagos with teams from across Africa competing for the Guinness trophy.

The Pan-African finale in Lagos saw winners from each market come together for a star-studded event. Our Guinness Africa Football Ambassador Rio Ferdinand was there, as were some of the biggest names in music such as Bebe Cool (from Uganda), Salatiel (from Cameroon) Sauti Sol (from Kenya) and Davido (from Nigeria). For an added ‘only Guinness can do’ twist, the celebrities not only performed, but also got stuck in and played in the 5-aside game alongside consumers.

The football extravaganza that included Human Foosball, glow in the dark body paint’, the 5-aside tournaments themselves, Guinness inspired food, and live music.

Guinness Night Football was a showcase of not only the sport and the beer, but intercontinental passion and talent.
