The Academy of Beverage Leadership (ABL) was designed to meet industry needs

In today’s competitive beverage alcohol landscape, customers are seeking more than just exceptional products. They want partners to deliver insight, strategy, and value. To meet this demand, in 2024, Diageo North America designed, built, and launched the Academy of Beverage Leadership (ABL) in collaboration with Deloitte Consulting, the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, and Enthuse Marketing. Since launch, the Academy has strengthened commercial leader performance—building more consumer-centric teams that respond faster to evolving needs and lead richer, data-informed conversations with on-premise and off-premise customers. 

ABL Overview

Academy objectives

ABL has three main objectives:

Objective 1

Objective 1: Expand category knowledge, including Whisk(e)y, Agave, & Lead Brands

To meet this objective, the Academy focuses on building category and brand expertise, brand storytelling, spirits science, and sales and marketing excellence.
Objective 2

Objective 2: Enhance capability to serve as business advisors through the use of leadership and influence, strategic analysis, and sales excellence.

To meet this objective, the Academy focuses on outcome-focused customer interactions, stakeholder management, consultative selling, and analytical approaches to decision-making using data.
Objective 3

Objective 3: Improve readiness to adapt to market forces affecting the beverage alcohol industry.

To meet this objective, the Academy focuses on all the forces that are impacting the industry as well as what the participants can do to address those forces.
