Captain Morgan makes a splash at Gasparilla

5 Feb 2018 | Press release

The iconic rum brand sponsored $20,000 worth of free rides for festivalgoers

If you were in Tampa at any point this past weekend, odds are you saw hordes of pirates roaming the streets. Luckily for the city, these pirates weren’t in town to raid or pillage – they were there to celebrate. One famous pirate was there to help make sure they did so responsibly.

The one and only Captain Morgan joined the 2018 Gasparilla Pirate Fest and brought with him a bounty of free Lyft rides for festivalgoers. Hundreds of thousands of pirate-clad parade watchers in Tampa for the weekend had the opportunity to take advantage of $20,000 worth of rides courtesy of the iconic rum brand.

“You can''t have a pirate festival without the most fun pirate in history, and we wanted to make sure he made his mark at Gasparilla this year with a little something special for all the swashbucklers in Tampa,” said Jim Sias, Director, Culture & Partnerships at DIAGEO. “The Captain was there to make sure everyone had a great time, but to do so responsibly.”

Thus, Captain Morgan officially declared that all Gasparilla-goers 21 and older took to the seas with the ship’s wheel in the hands of a trusted Captain – or Lyft driver - for terrestrial purposes. Of-age crew members were able to download the Lyft app and enter the promotional code “LIKEACAPTAIN” to receive a free ride courtesy of Captain Morgan that could be redeemed for 24 hours starting Saturday at noon.

All pirates love their treasure, and the pirates at Gasparilla were no different - one thousand codes were claimed for $20 Lyft credits.
