Now in its 22nd year, the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction is the UK’s most prestigious annual book award for fiction written by a woman, celebrating excellence, originality and accessibility in women’s writing around the world.
This year’s awards took place at the Royal Festival Hall, London on June 7, with a host of literary luminaries and famous faces coming together to celebrate the 2017 winner, Naomi Alderman, who took the prize with her fourth novel, The Power.
Guests on the red carpet included actor and comedian Stephen Mangan, 2017 Baileys Prize judges Katie Derham and Aminatta Forna, former Baileys Prize winners Ali Smith and Lionel Shriver, author JoJo Moyes and many more.
‘Together we can do great things’
Baileys has been the title sponsor for the past four years, and will be part of a family of sponsors supporting the prize from next year. Delivering the sponsor’s speech at the event, Syl Saller spoke passionately about how this new partnership structure, rooted in collaboration, will help promote and celebrate truly great writing and break down barriers wherever they appear.
