Learning For Life in North America

In 2014 we launched our Diageo Learning Skills for Life™ (LS4L) program in North America, bringing opportunities for training and careers in the hospitality industry to a new group of people and making a contribution to reducing youth unemployment. To date, this program has had over 500 graduates across the North America market, delivering more than 30 classes. Our target is that at least 70% of Learning Skills for Life graduates enter employment – as of November 2018, graduates have experienced a placement rate of 83% in North America.

The program, which originated in Latin America and the Caribbean in 2008, offers participants a genuine opportunity to obtain employment by providing both life and job skills in areas related to our value chain such as bartending, hospitality, retail and entrepreneurship. In line with our core values as a company, all participants also receive advice and guidance on responsible drinking and service.

For our North America program, we began with a bartending module launched in our headquarters in Norwalk, Connecticut. It has now expanded to the cities of Houston, Texas and Washington D.C, with plans launch in New Orleans in 2019.

Like all Diageo's empowerment programs, LS4L is intended to create shared value across organizations and stakeholders within the communities in which we work, developing skills and building relationships for the long-term benefit of society and our business.
