Learning for Life graduate wins local World Class competition in Colombia

Juan David Zapata, former graduate from Diageo's Learning for Life programme, triumphs in the mixology world as he is awarded first place at World Class Bartender of the Year Colombia 2018

Juan David Zapata, a 26 year old from Medellín, Colombia, has won first place at the World Class Bartender of the Year competition in Colombia. Juan David's victory comes after he graduated from the first Learning for Life programme in Medellín.

Since graduating from the course, Juan David proactively pursued his interest in mixology and devoted time to study and explore the subject in detail, which later evolved into a career and passion.

The World Class contest is close to Juan David’s heart, having reached the finals on two previous occasions. After taking some time to focus on developing his own products and setting up a bar, Juan David returned to World Class Colombia for a third time this year and following seven intense days of competition he was named champion.

Juan David’s success is testament to his passion and hard work as well as the impact of the Learning for Life programme. Since its implementation in 2008 Learning for Life Colombia has helped over 6000 young people in five main cities.

Following his victory, Juan David will go on to take part in the World Class finals due to take place in Berlin later this year.
