​Lagavulin 16 was awarded the Best Distiller’s Single Malt of 2017 and the Double Gold Medal at this year’s prestigious San Francisco World Spirits competition.

Founded in 2000, the San Francisco World Spirits Competition has grown to become the most respected and influential spirits competition in the world, with winners judged by carefully selected panels of spirits-industry experts.

Lagavulin 16’s two awards recognise the craft and heritage of this incredible malt as well as the team of coppersmiths, coopers and distillers who carry on the long tradition of Scotch whisky making on Islay. Deirdre Mahlan, President Diageo North America said, "We are proud of the distilling heritage of our spirits brands and this overwhelming recognition from one of the most globally-recognised spirits competitions is testament to that."

Lagavulin 16 is an intense, smoky-sweet single malt with seaweed flavors and a huge finish, aged in oak casks for at least 16 years. It has a strong peat-smoke that's typical of southern Islay but also offers a dryness that makes it a truly interesting dram.
