Mika Häkkinen, two-time champion and Johnnie Walker Global Responsible Drinking Ambassador, thrilled spectators in the Johnnie Walker supercar, the Caparo T1 during the F1 Live event in the heart of central London. And Londoners were encouraged to sign their pledge on a McLaren 570S at Charing Cross station, joined by the Transport Minister, John Hayes, and Charles Ireland, our GB, Ireland and France General Manager.

Charles said: “Just as the stars of F1 will inspire the millions who tune into the British Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend, we want to inspire millions to drink responsibly and get home safely. As an industry we have made strong steps to reduce drink driving but there is still more work to be done. This is why we are thrilled to be hosting this event.

“We hope that by showcasing the drivers and the Join the Pact car in London, we’ll encourage people across the capital and beyond to join the 3.1 million globally that have already made the pledge to never drink and drive.”

250,000 signatures are hoped to be collected over the course of the week. This is part of a wider pledge from Johnnie Walker to encourage five million people globally to Join the Pact by 2018.

Secretary of State for Transport, The Rt Hon Chris Grayling, said: “We have some of the safest roads in the world and deaths from drink driving have fallen significantly over the last 30 years, but four people still die from it every week.

“It’s good to see the industry getting involved with innovative ways to get people to stop driving under the influence.”

F1 driver Stoffel Vandoorne said that: “We’re confident that people will get the message. Millions already have, and we want to encourage millions more to make a personal commitment to get home safely and ‘Join The Pact’ by signing one of our cars, or posting #JoinThePact on social media.”
