Global water award recognises our leadership in water sustainability
We are delighted to receive the Industrial Water Champion Award from the Global Water Intelligence Magazine.
Feature 01 JUN 2017
The award recognises, "Diageo’s ongoing leadership in industrial water sustainability, and your significant and demonstrable success in reducing your water footprint over the past 10 years”.
A blueprint for success
In 2015, we launched the Diageo Water Blueprint, which outlined our water stewardship strategy and made clear our commitment to addressing key issues such as our growth in emerging markets, the impact of water across our supply chain, climate change and the fast-changing external policy agenda.
This recognition from one of the leading voices in the water industry is reward for all the work we've done so far in these areas and is a clear indication that we are heading in the right direction. Overall water efficiency in our operations has increased by 38% since 2007, improving by over 47% in Africa and by over 36% in India during the same period. At the same time, our Water of Life programme has brought safe water, sanitation and hygiene to more than 10 million people in 18 countries since 2006.
Looking to the future
We are committed to doing even more to address the water challenges we face and to improve water efficiency, particularly in water-stressed areas.
Our strategy is based on understanding the impact our business has across our supply chain and prioritising our activity accordingly. Whether looking at how we source raw materials, assessing water use within our own operations or supporting local and global advocacy, our aim is to reduce our overall impact by managing and protecting vital water resources.
