Diageo recognised among top global companies in Dow Jones Sustainability Index

Diageo retains its position in the Dow Jones Sustainability global index and rises to sixth place in Carbon Clear’s ranking of the sustainability reporting performance of the FTSE 100.

We are delighted to have increased our score in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The DJSI is considered the gold standard for measuring corporate sustainability and benchmarks the world’s largest 2,500 companies based upon their economic, environmental and sustainable business performance. We are one of only a small number of alcohol companies to rank highly in this year’s index, placed in the top 10% of businesses overall.

Diageo has been named as the industry leader in nine of the 27 criteria included in the DJSI index, including environmental reporting, human rights, labor standards, packaging and corporate governance. Over the last 12 months, the leading companies in the DJSI outperformed the total Dow, or Dow Jones Industrial Average, in terms of growth.

We are also pleased to announce that we have achieved our highest ever ranking in Carbon Clear’s report on the sustainability performance of the FTSE 100. Moving from tenth to sixth place, with a score of 75% for 2017, Carbon Clear commended us for publishing key performance indicators for our environmental targets in our annual report.

Speaking about Diageo’s position in this year’s indexes, David Croft, Diageo’s Global Sustainable Development Director said:

“We’re extremely proud to have increased our score in two of the world’s most influential sustainability rankings this year. While our position in the top 10% of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index is of course credit to our continued work across our communities and the environment, given the index also measures an extremely broad range of economic factors, it is also a strong indicator of good overall business performance. We’re also extremely pleased to have achieved our highest ever position in Carbon Clear’s FTSE 100 sustainability reporting ranking, which recognises our efforts to set ambitious and impactful sustainability targets.”
