Diageo named as one of the FTSE 100 leaders for female representation
Diageo celebrates its commitment to diverse leadership as it is named among the leading FTSE 100 companies for representation of women at board and executive level by the Hampton-Alexander review. Syl Saller, Chief Marketing Officer, and Mairead Nayager, Human Resources Director, are also recognised in the “100 Women to Watch” list by Cranfield University School of Management.

Diageo continues to deliver a strong track record for diversity in business, gaining recognition as one of the leading FTSE 100 companies for female representation at board and executive level by the Hampton-Alexander review.
In addition to being third in the FTSE 100 for women on boards and in leadership, as outlined in the Hampton-Alexander review, Diageo has also been named joint first in the FTSE 100 companies with female executive directors, included in the Female FTSE Board Report 2017 by Cranfield University School of Management.
Commenting on the 2017 review’s findings, Mairead Nayager, Human Resources Director at Diageo commented:

“At Diageo, we are driven by a core belief that successful businesses are those that harness the benefits of a truly diverse and inclusive culture. Women currently make up 44% of our Board, 40% of our Executive Committee and 30% of our global senior leadership team. In April 2018, our Board will achieve gender parity when Ursula Burns takes up her position.
“We are proud of the progress we have already made towards gender equality in our business and have a clear ambition to deliver more. We have recently increased, to 40%, our goal for female representation on our global senior leadership team and we intend to achieve this target by 2025.
“We are committed to fostering an inclusive culture, where every employee can feel fulfilled in both their professional and personal lives. Our career development programmes have an equal intake of women and men to attract, retain and grow the best talent; women are already 50% of our global graduate hires; in Scotland this year, nearly 30% of our new apprentices were women. We have a number of initiatives in place that have contributed to this progress, but we know there is more to do in our ambition to go further and deliver more opportunities for women.”

In 2015 the UK Government launched the Hampton-Alexander Review to build on the work of the Davies Review into women on boards. It raised the targets for female participation on company boards to 33% by 2020.
Similarly, introduced in 2009, Cranfield School of Management published The 100 Women to Watch. Now in its 8th year, it aims to highlight the broad and deep female talent pool for UK businesses to draw on, by showcasing different talent and, in so doing, refuting the myth that there is a limited supply of willing and able women to take on board-level accountability in UK listed companies.
