Operating in a responsible and sustainable way every day, everywhere means that we can support our communities, protect and preserve natural resources and ensure alcohol plays a positive role in society.
Our priorities are guided by the issues that are most material to our business and the value chain we create. From the farmers who grow our ingredients, to our employees and contractors, to the consumers who buy our brands, we want to make sure we are a positive influence on society and the environment.
We are developing our strategy to address our most material issues and support the delivery of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) over the critical decade to 2030. The launch of our strategy and targets has been delayed by Covid-19 until later this fiscal year.

Promoting positive drinking
We are committed to promoting moderation, tackling misuse, and improving laws and standards, while respecting the fact that many people choose not to drink alcohol at all. We put our resources and skills into programmes that prevent and reduce alcohol misuse, working with others to raise awareness and change people's attitudes and behaviour. We market our products responsibly and provide the information consumers need to make informed decisions about drinking, or choosing not to drink.
Pioneer Grain to Glass Sustainability
For our business to be sustainable, it needs to create enduring value – for us and for those around us. We must positively impact the communities in which we live, work, source and sell and protect the natural resources on which we all depend.We need to make sure we are doing business the right way, from grain to glass.
We aim to promote inclusive growth by fostering sustainable value chains, delivering integrated community programmes, and using natural resources efficiently across our whole value chain.

Our inclusive and diverse culture is central to our purpose of ‘Celebrating life, every day, everywhere. At Diageo, we are driven to create an inclusive culture where every individual can thrive and to champion inclusion and diversity in our business and in society more broadly.
Our 2030 targets
Our strategy continues to evolve as we build towards the business we want to be in 2030 and beyond. In 2015, we set a range of environmental and social targets for 2020. We have since set additional targets for positive drinking, renewable electricity and plastic packaging.Our 2030 targets are being finalised to be published later this fiscal year.
In 2020 we reached the end of our 2020 Sustainability and Responsibility targets. Our targets were selected to ensure we help to achieve the UN’s Global Goals and support WHO programmes on health, such as the Global Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases.
In order to ensure we are making a real and relevant contribution, we measure and report on the impact of every programme and initiative we run. We report on our progress every year in our Annual Report and Sustainability and Responsibility Performance Addendum.
