Diageo achieves Gold Class sustainability rating Download file
Diageo is proud to announce that it scored a ‘Gold Class’ rating in the prestigious SAM Sustainability Yearbook 2011 which measures more than 2,500 of the world’s largest companies in terms of their impact on the triple bottom line - economic, social and environmental performance
Our top rating was one of only three in the ‘beverage’ sector and the only alcoholic beverage company to receive this recognition. SAM, an investment group exclusively focused on sustainability, has partnered with Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX Limited for the publication and licensing of the widely respected Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes.
We increased our rating from Bronze last year and due to our progress we were also awarded the significant ‘Sector Mover 2011’ – an award to the company that achieved the biggest proportional improvement in sustainability performance from last year in their sector.
This international recognition reflects the progress we have made with our new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy which aims to embed CSR in the business, particularly in areas such as brand, innovation and customer strategies, as well as growth drivers such as emerging market activities.
David Gosnell, President Global Supply & Procurement and Chairman of the Environment Executive Working Group, commented:
“This is a great achievement and reflects the dedication and excellent performance of Diageo people in multiple functions around the globe to integrate compliance, environmental sustainability, alcohol in society, community investment and good people practices into the business. All of this is driven by our goal to become a truly sustainable business.”
Carolyn Panzer, corporate social responsibility director, added:
“We are delighted with this well-earned recognition. We know we don’t have all the answers and there’s lots of work ahead to further embed sustainability in our business - but we are really encouraged by this independent rating which will help shape future efforts.”
