Arthur’s Day 2012  

This year’s Arthur’s Day celebrations saw a record number of Guinness fans from across the globe come together to celebrate Arthur’s Day 2012. Fans from 55 countries, spanning six time zones, raised a toast to the founder of the legendary stout, Arthur Guinness.

Since 2009, the celebrations have grown every year with Arthur’s Day 2012 seeing performances from some of the world’s biggest names in music, including Tom Jones, Tinie Tempah and Primal Scream.

The global events kicked off on 27th September in Dublin with surprise gigs from the likes of Professor Green, Example, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Fat Boy Slim, which took place in pubs across Ireland giving fans a once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close to these renowned music stars for a truly remarkable evening.

In London, Guinness lovers were treated to an exclusive gig at Senate House from music icon Tom Jones performing a one-off collaboration with R&B superstar Wretch 32.

Two hours of live music performances were streamed out across the Caribbean islands from renowned artists. In Spain, the festivities were led by former lead singer of popular rock band Pereza as 1,200 Guinness fans raised a toast to Arthur. While in Germany and Italy, Revolverheld and Max Gazze continued the Arthur’s Day celebrations.

Friday 28th September saw Arthurs’ Day festivities move to Singapore and Malaysia. In Singapore, 7,000 Guinness lovers celebrated with performances from Asian superstars Shin, Della Ding Dang and Paul Wong. While in Malaysia, three separate events were held at specially selected locations with local artists given the chance to showcase their talents.

To date, nearly €8 million has been donated to the Arthur Guinness Fund thanks to Arthur’s Day and various other Guinness projects. Contributions were made on behalf people who “checked-in” to Arthur’s Day events via Facebook and a proportion of proceeds were contributed to the fund from tickets sold. Additionally, this year Guinness introduced a new way for fans to pledge their support for the Arthur Guinness Fund.

The Arthur’s Day celebrations are not yet over as fans in Indonesia are eagerly anticipating 3rd November, when they will be treated to an exclusive Arthur’s Day performance in Jakarta from international rock group, Creed.

With the 2012 festivities celebrated in style across the globe and a record number of people raising a toast to Arthur Guinness, plans are already in place to ensure Arthur’s Day 2013 is yet another night to remember.
