Diageo top scoring alcohol beverage company in the world in latest green rankingsDownload file
Diageo has been recognised as the top scoring alcohol beverage company in the world by the Newsweek Green Rankings 2012. In these rankings – one of the most respected global environmental indices - Diageo is also the fourth highest scoring company in the Food, Beverage & Tobacco sector scoring higher than many other well respected and high profile FMCGs.
In their fourth annual look at the most environmentally friendly businesses, Newsweek’s Green Rankings compared the world’s largest 500 companies according to their environmental footprint, management (policies, initiatives, controversies), and transparency. The methodology was developed in consultation with an advisory panel of experts and the resulting ranking is one of the most comprehensive available. With an improvement of 71 places compared to 2011, Diageo were placed 267th overall – a ranking strongly influenced by the performance of the broader Food, Beverage & Tobacco sector.
David Gosnell, president of global supply and procurement and executive lead for environmental sustainability, commented: “This impressive result, combined with an exceptional score in last month’s Carbon Disclosure Project’s Global 500 index, provides independent confirmation that Diageo is one of the best performing beverage companies in the world on the environment – and one of the most highly respected companies globally. This is a result of many years of collective effort across the business and reflects our determination to continually improve our environmental performance to be one of the best.”
