Did you know?George Walker and Tom Brown came up with the concept of the ‘striding man’ over lunch in 1908, written on the back of a menu. In 1937 the striding man figure was added to Johnnie Walker Red Label in the US (not global until 1951).
Brand factIn 1906 Alexander Walker, a master of the art of blending, unveiled a powerful combination of spicy smoky malts and lingering lighter grains. He called it 'Special Old Highland Whisky'. In 1909 Alexander renamed his recipe Johnnie Walker Red Label in deference to his consumers who were already using ‘Red Label’ as a short hand when ordering the brand. Within eleven years it was being consumed at social gatherings in 120 countries around the world.
