The Diageo Bartender Project (Projeto Bartender) in Brazil, is dedicated to training young unemployed people, often from disadvantaged backgrounds, in bartending skills and teaches students how to serve alcoholic beverages responsibly.
The eight month training programme includes: promoting responsible alcohol consumption, work experience, supervised outings to bars, restaurants and beverage production facilities. More than one third of Diageo Brazil employees give some of their time and talents to the programme as volunteers.
The Bartender project has now entered its six year and has been rolled out to five cities since the pilot programme in Sau Paulo. Nearly 1000 students have participated, 90 per cent of whom now have successfully found employment.
